I am looking for a few volunteers to help with the silent/live auction for the DC Dine to Defeat ALS event happening on Wednesday, May 29th at The Mayflower Hotel.
Volunteers will be given a list of companies who have donated in-kind items to our chapter in the past to help collect some auction items. Volunteers will also help by organizing materials for the silent and live auction as the date gets closer.
The DC Dine to Defeat ALS event bring over 350 corporate leaders in the community to help raise funds to provide nearly 700 people living with ALS free patience services in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that slowly robs an individual’s ability to walk, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe while their minds stay alert. There is still no known cure for this disease and the average life expectancy is 2-5 years after diagnosis. Additionally, ALS is a service-related disease and military veterans are twice as likely to be affected by ALS than anyone else. Did you know the out of pocket costs for an ALS patient can run as high as $250,000 a year? Along with all the physical challenges individuals face with ALS they also endure a financial burden as well.
