Learn to make a profound difference in someone’s life! Come share your gifts, your heart, and your time. You will be appreciated and supported - and you will find you get back even more than you give! New volunteer training uses lecture, real life stories and small group exercises so you will learn how to provide practical help and emotional support to those with life limiting illnesses and their loved ones. At the end of this comprehensive training, you will receive a certificate and become part of a very special care team - ordinary people making an extraordinary difference!
We need volunteers in a number of areas, including:
- Patient companionship and family support- this takes place in people's homes, as well as nursing homes. Can also include volunteers with specialized, licensed skills, such as Pet Therapy, Reiki, Massage Therapy, Hair Stylist, etc.
- Veteran to Veteran visits - also in people’s homes, as well as nursing homes.
- MVH Singers- a trained group of volunteers who sing softly at patients' bedside.
- Bereavement support.
- Keepsake Program- Share your creative side! We need volunteers who can sew, use clothing from someone who has passed and make keepsake teddy bears or pillows from the material. Very popular with loved ones.
Volunteers who visit with patients and families must complete a volunteer training. We also ask that people are not actively grieving a loss.
Our Malden office covers patients in the following areas: Malden, Melrose, Everett, Revere, Chelsea, Medford, Arlington, Somerville, Stoneham, Winchester, Cambridge, East Boston, Winthrop, Salem, Marblehead, Swampscott, Lynn, Saugus, Wakefield, Peabody, Lynnfield, Reading, North Reading, Wilmington, Burlington and Woburn.
