Distracted driving continues to be an ever growing danger on our State’s roadway. Although, Arizona now has a Handsfree Law, they are not ticketing drivers yet. This year is the education year. This summit plans to educate all drivers of the dangers of distracted driving.

The Arizona Distracted Driving Summit brings together citizens, researches, law enforcement agencies, legislators & elected officials, as well as numerous other state and national organizations to focus on how we can reduce and eliminate the growing crisis of distracted driving in our communities and on our roadways.

The continuing theme of the Summit as in previous years will focus on three major areas: Education, Enforcement, & Engagement.

The 2020 Summit will facilitate group discussions and presentations following a morning introduction and key note speaker. The lunch key note may include a special guest or a panel discussions focused on education. A closing panel discussion will focus on engagement and cooperation between citizens and governmental officials. Educational sessions will enable attendees to earn continuing education credits (CEU’S) for their professional certifications.

A simulated vehicle/motorcycle collision and emergency rescue/recovery is going to take place on the city street adjacent to the Capital starting at 10:45 am.

Free light continental style breakfast for event sponsors, volunteers and early arrivals starting at 8:00am (while supplies last. Free "box lunches" for the first 500 attendees who register, upon arrival, served at 11:15 am).

About RED MEANS STOP COALITION

Location:

Mission Statement

Red Means Stop is an organization of victims and safety advocates, comprised of mothers, fathers, children and people like YOU! Our goal is to save lives and prevent motor vehicle crashes that injure and kill drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

Description

The Red Means Stop Traffic Safety Alliance works to increase public awareness of the consequences of motor vehicle crashes that injure and kill drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.

In January 1999, three families who incurred the consequences of red light runners founded The Red Means Stop Coalition. RMSC founding families, Hinds, Marquis and Philippi came together in late 1998 to begin forming the Coalition, dedicated to their children, Jennifer Hinds, Sam Marquis and Krystal Philippi.

Red Light runners caused both incidents leaving Jennifer, Sam and Krystal as innocent victims. Jennifer and Krystal both suffered traumatic brain injuries, common in these kinds of side impact crashes. While Jennifer did not survive, Krystal, who remained in a coma for nearly 10 weeks, has battled back and is recovering. Sam has also recovered.

The Red Means Stop Coalition is the only known grassroots organization of its kind in the United States. Our long-term goal is to have the message about the dangers and consequences of red light running spread throughout the country until red light running is significantly reduced everywhere.
