Fair Housing Testers and Surveyors in the Bay Area

Are you looking to gain experience volunteering at a civil rights organization? Project Sentinel is seeking Fair Housing Testers and Surveyors to help end housing discrimination throughout Northern California. Testers pose as prospective tenants by phone, email, or in person, and report on their experience; testers’ experiences are compared to determine if discrimination has occurred. Surveyors interview current residents to gather information about their housing experience.

To qualify, applicants must:

• Be 18 or older;
• Attend a training;
• Complete a practice test;
• Pass a criminal history check;
• Be reliable and committed to civil rights; and
• Be able to write and submit objective reports within 24 hours of completing a test.

Testers and Surveyors are used as needed and earn a stipend, typically $15 to $25 for a phone or email test, $20 to $55 for an in-person test, and $55 for a survey, plus mileage and expense reimbursements.
