About us:
We’re an independent non-profit agency that builds, develops, acquires, and manages low- and moderate-income housing in Palo Alto and the San Francisco Bay Area. We provide high-quality, safe housing; subsidize rents to the greatest degree possible, and support our residents in reaching their goals through our Resident Services program. We are searching for volunteers to help us strengthen our services and further our mission!

READING BUDDY:
Reading Buddies are needed 2 afternoons per week, either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday; 4:30-5:30 pm . Come to one of our sites and partner read one-on-one with a student in grades 1-5. 20-30 minutes of reading per child per day can make such a huge difference in their literacy skills! As a Reading Buddy, you can give them the boost they need to stay on track academically.
Our ideal volunteer:
- Has experience with children in grades 1-5
- Loves reading and children’s books
- Is warm, patient, and caring
- Is excellent at asking open-ended questions
- Can commit to twice per week for a minimum of 3 months

Description
Alta manages over 700 units of affordable housing for low-income families and seniors. Alta strives to provide service enriched housing to its residents by offering a comprehensive services program. We provide resources, art classes, ESL classes, computer training, and afterschool programs in addition to community-building activities.
