Thank you for your interest in volunteering with By the Bay Health, but due to the current COVID pandemic, Volunteer trainings in 2020 were cancelled. We have been accepting applications continuously throughout the past year, but have not been conducting trainee interviews. We are hopeful to provide one training in fall 2021 when it is safe to conduct classroom sessions in-person, as well as online. We currently welcome new applications, but please be aware that we have a significant number of applicants on the wait-list since March 2020. Applications are processed in the order received, which means your application may not be considered for interview eligibility until 2022.
Sonoma County Hospice Patient Care Volunteer
By the Bay Health is in search of individuals with a passion for caring for others. As a Patient Care Volunteer for By the Bay Health you’ll be making a significant difference for someone facing end-of-life challenges. Your meaningful contributions will help support the hospice care team by:
- Relieving a patient caregiver
- Providing companionship/support to patients
- Life review with patients
- Participating in personal interests with patients
- Assisting patient/family with practical assistance in daily living
In addition to becoming a member of our transdisciplinary team, as a volunteer you will receive in depth training on how to prepare for working with patients and families. This training is beneficial for all, and would be beneficial for those seeking to pursue a career in the medical field.
By the Bay Health was founded by dedicated volunteers more than 40 years ago. We sincerely hope that you’ll consider joining our team!

Description
What makes By the Bay Health unique! It was founded by volunteers as a non-profit, end-of-life healthcare provider in 1975. It was created by the community to serve the community. As the second oldest hospice in the U.S., By The Bay Health has the depth of experience to understand the medical, practical, emotional and spiritual care patients and their families need during the end of life experience. From its grassroots foundation by community volunteers (then named Hospice of Marin), By The Bay Health remains at the vanguard of the hospice industry and a premier, regional provider of end-of-life care.
