Business Hours: Monday - Thursday, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

The Woodburn Area Meals on Wheels program is one of the Agency’s largest nutrition programs. The mealsite currently serves approximately 105 Meals on Wheels consumers. With a high demand for in-home assessments and reassessments, the In-home Assessment volunteer will assist the mealsite coordinator with the following responsibilities, which vary depending on assignment but may include:

  • Scheduling: Respond to phone calls and e-mails and arrange appointment with consumers.
  • Assessments: Assess consumer’s eligibility for Meals on Wheels delivery using program and agency standards and complete annual home-delivered meal reassessments.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by meeting the needs of participants, following through with assigned responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Referrals: Educate self and others of resources available for populations served by referring to Aging and Disability Resource Connection of Oregon (ADRC).

Qualifications:

  • Basic office skills including typing, writing, answering phones, filing, and following directions.
  • Ability to professionally represent the program and agency by exhibiting the Agency mission and core values.
  • Capacity to interact with others in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and follow policies and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and people skills. Requirements
  • Complete application and interview
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Successfully pass a criminal and background check
  • Complete orientation and training
  • Provide own transportation
  • Assist at least 3 hours per week during regular business hours
  • One-year minimum commitment
  • Provide advance notice if late or unable to volunteer on designated day.
  • Must read, sign and follow HIPPA Policy & Standards of Conduct for Volunteers.

Boundaries

Duties of an In-home Assessment volunteer are limited to the above responsibilities. Volunteers must be able to maintain confidential information about meal participants. Personal things that are learned about participants must not be discussed with others.

If a consumer asks a volunteer to do something that is questionable, or to provide other services, inform the coordinator immediately.

An In-home Assessment volunteer should not:

  • Transport a consumer in any vehicle; this includes the volunteer and consumer’s personal vehicle.
  • Conduct any financial business for or on behalf of a consumer.
  • Make any personal arrangements with consumers.
  • Distribute literature which is not directed by the agency i.e. religious, political, business cards and other materials.
  • Promote activities for self-gain i.e. buying or selling of products, services.
  • Enter a consumer’s home without mealsite coordinator’s knowledge and approval.

  • Check-ins and one-on-ones with volunteer supervisor

Time Commitment
  • Approximately 1-3 hours per day, one or more days per week

NorthWest Senior & Disability Services

NorthWest Senior & Disability Services (NWSDS) is a local intergovernmental agency that was created in 1982. Designated as the Area Agency on Aging for Clatsop, Marion, Polk, Tillamook and Yamhill Counties. NWSDS is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and arranging services for seniors and people with disabilities in these five counties.

Funds for the operation of NWSDS and its programs come from the federal and state government, as well as from community groups and individual donations. NWSDS also relies heavily on dedicated and compassionate volunteers who serve in the following programs:
