The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons on a single night in January. HUD requires continuums of Care to conduct this count and to collect some basic demographic information from each person counted. Helping to identify the number of unsheltered homeless individuals in Polk County will help the area get funding to help defeat homelessness.

Each count is planned, coordinated, and carried out locally. We assemble teams made up of experienced service providers and community volunteers to canvas Polk County in search of our unsheltered homeless citizens. Those teams are responsible for interviewing any homeless persons within their assigned specific geographic area in the county.

One shift will work in the morning (5am - 11am) and one shift will work in the afternoon (11am - 5pm). Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the shift you choose. Once your team has counted everyone in the assigned area, you will turn in your survey forms to your team leader.

Don't forget to dress in comfortable walking shoes and weather-friendly clothing. A complimentary breakfast and lunch, water and additional snacks will be provided.

This year's annual point in time will be January 27th, 2022.

Volunteers will need to attend ONE of the following training opportunities:

Dates - November 15th, December 6th or 13th, or January 10th
Times - 1:00pm

Dates - November 17th, December 8th or 15th, or January 12th
