Are you looking to make a real and lasting difference in someone’s life? Would you like to get teaching experience working with adults? Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) trains volunteers to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring to adults in basic literacy and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). LVM tutors are dedicated, patient, flexible and encouraging volunteers who create a positive learning environment where adults can thrive and learn without embarrassment.
With improved literacy skills and the confidence that comes with them, adults are able to pursue a better life and a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to attend a volunteer information session. Join us Tuesday, January 22 from 6-8pm, for an information session. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, RSVP for one of the information sessions by using this link: https://goo.gl/forms/Lh7i7QfS6VeeFFor2. If you have any questions, please email Josh Dees at josh@lvm.org OR call him at 617-367-1313.If you cannot make the December Information Session, Check out our sessions on December 3, and January 3 and 14!
Once you have attended one of these four information sessions you can attend one of our two types of trainings. Each training is 18 hours spread out over the course of 6 evenings. The dates for the trainings are as follows:
- Basic Literacy Training: February 27 and March 4, 6, 11, 13, 18 (with a snow date of March 25)
- ESOL Training: January 29 and 31, and February 5, 7, 12, 19 (with a snow date of February 21)

Mission Statement
Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) believes in the power of literacy to transform lives and communities. Since 1972, LVM has trained volunteer tutors to provide free, confidential and individualized tutoring to adults in basic reading and writing, and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
Description
LVM volunteers help adults acquire the literacy and English language skills that empower them to realize their goals. By improving their basic skills through tutoring, adults are better able to meet life's challenges, be self-sufficient, provide for their families, help their children with homework, read a daily newspaper, enjoy more independence and gain self-confidence.
