Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Bay Area Girls Rock Camp!

Our Girls Rock After School Program (GRASP) serves self-identified girls, trans, and/or gender non-conforming youth ages 8-18 with instrument lessons, band practice, and music/empowerment workshops.

We are looking for self-identified women, trans, and/or gender non-conforming adults ages 19+ to be Band Managers or Band Coaches to youth bands (2-6 people). We hope for our youth to see themselves reflected in their mentors in this program. We prioritize people that are often not recognized as leaders or musical authorities to be those very things at GRASP. That is the reasoning behind gender-based mentorship in our program.

Each youth band is assigned a Band Coach and a Band Manager to help guide their songwriting process as needed during band practice, such as with goal setting, constructive feedback and mediating conflicts. Band Coaches are volunteers with experience playing music and setting up equipment. Band Managers require no musical experience and youth work experience is recommended.

There is a mandatory training on Sunday, January 6, 12-5:30pm. We need volunteer Band Coaches and Band Managers on Thursdays, January 10 through March 14, 3:45-5pm and/or 5-6:15pm. We provide coffee and snacks. There is an optional end-of-program showcase where youth perform their original songs to adoring fans in the afternoon of Saturday, March 16.

Interested? Questions? Feel free to email or call 510-267-1808. We look forward to hearing from you!
