HIUSA Volunteer Philosophy: Volunteers are an essential part of the hostelling movement, playing a key role in sharing their own life experience and passion for travel with travelers locally and from around the world. HI USA volunteers are vital contributors to the future of hostelling by providing innovative ideas and resources, and by serving as hostelling ambassadors in their local communities.

Qualifications:

  • Interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome guests with brief intro about HI USA programs and activities
  • Self-report your volunteers hours on HI USA volunteer portal
  • Facilitate introductions and conversation among guests to create a welcoming environment
  • Work to increase understanding and tolerance by helping people break down cultural barriers
  • Help visitors to the community have a great travel experience
  • Lead walking tours and pub crawls, host community meals and movie screenings.
