HIUSA Volunteer Philosophy: Volunteers are an essential part of the hostelling movement, playing a key role in sharing their own life experience and passion for travel with travelers locally and from around the world. HI USA volunteers are vital contributors to the future of hostelling by providing innovative ideas and resources, and by serving as hostelling ambassadors in their local communities.

Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding and passion for HIUSA mission
- Comfort speaking to groups of people and ability to hold engaging conversations
- Awareness of and interest in cultural differences including one’s own identity
- Interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome guests with brief intro about HI USA programs and activities
- Self-report your volunteers hours on HI USA volunteer portal
- Facilitate introductions and conversation among guests to create a welcoming environment
- Work to increase understanding and tolerance by helping people break down cultural barriers
- Help visitors to the community have a great travel experience
- Lead walking tours and pub crawls, host community meals and movie screenings.

Who We Are
We bring travelers together in the largest hostel network in the USA, but that’s just the start: from local tours and experiences, to experiential learning programs, HI USA strives to bring moments of cultural understanding to our guests and community members. HI USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, member-based organization that reinvests our surpluses back into our hostels and programs so they can have an even greater impact, year after year.
