Become a Certified Child Passenger Seat (car seat) Technician

We are looking to train up to 6 volunteers to become Certified Passenger Seat (car seat) Technicians, to assist in teaching proper car seat installations to parents are care givers. The training class is 40 hours, usually in one week. Training date is not yet available.

Current Certified Technicians are encouraged to apply for this volunteer position.

Volunteers will learn proper and secure installations of multiple types of car seats, learn about seat expirations dates, how to identify save vs. unsafe car seats, proper vs. unsafe seat installations and more.

To participate in the training, volunteers need to apply for and become a Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) volunteer and make a commitment to volunteer for this task on a regular basis. Exact schedules to be determined, with flexibility for the volunteers as possible. Schedules could include a half or whole day per week, or 1-4 times per month. Supervision during installations by a Senior Inspector is provided.
