NewBoCo is looking for volunteers for the Future City Competition on January 20th, 2024. Future City is a project-based learning program where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future. Keeping the engineering design process and project management front and center, students work in teams to ask and answer an authentic, real-world question: How can we make the world a better place? This year's theme,"Electrify Your Future", challenges students to design a 100% electrically powered city with energy generated from sources that keep their citizens and the environment healthy and safe. The competition has a few different parts: essays, city building (virtual and a real life model), and presentations of those city models. For the January 13th and 20th competition dates, we are looking for volunteers to help these parts run smoothly. January 13th, the judging will be held virtually, and January 20th will be held at Maple Grove Elementary in Cedar Rapids: 1300 38th St NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405. General volunteer roles are room monitors, greeters/check-in people, tabulators (people to enter scores), runners to take rubrics from judges to tabulators, and general fill-in roles as needed. We are also looking for people of college age or older to be judges for the competition.
