Aurora Youth Options (AYO) works with middle and high school-aged youth and their families to navigate, connect and provide positive, individualized resources to help youth thrive. AYO's one-to-one, community based mentor program matches youth and volunteer mentors based on similar interests and personalities. We ask our matches to get together on average two times a month. Mentors have regular contact with Mentor Specialists for monthly feedback, coaching, and support as needed. Matches are provided free tickets to cultural events such as the Denver Zoo, the Museum of Nature and Science, the Art Museum, sporting events, and plays and musicals.

Right now, we have nine male youth who are waiting for the right mentor to come along. We have one young man who is interested in exploring the outdoors, sports, game nights, and having fun. He currently has no father figure involved in his life and he struggles in math and science classes. He’s looking for someone who will be supportive and kind, enjoy similar activities, and act as a role model. He’s excited to be matched up with someone awesome! Are you the mentor he's been hoping for?

About Aurora Mental Health & Recovery

Location:

1290 Chambers Rd, Aurora, CO 80011, US

Mission Statement

Navigation of Community Resources, Mentoring, Tutoring, Substance Use Prevention and Youth Leadership.

Description

Aurora Youth Options (AYO) is the youth prevention team of Aurora Mental Health & Recovery. AYO works with middle and high-school-aged youth and their families, helping young people gain life skills and confidence for personal success and happiness. AYO assesses each individual youth to determine what resources would be best, offer support and make the connection.

Referrals include mentoring, existing community resources, pro-social activities or enhancing life skill-building.

Nearly half the young people between the ages of 10 and 18 live in challenging situations that put them at risk of not living up to their potential. They need a listening ear and gentle guidance that can turn a negative situation into a life lesson.

Our staff, volunteers, and mentors nurture and help young people grow their personal and professional skills leading to greater happiness and a better outlook as they come into adulthood
