The Arc of the Capital Area is looking for volunteers to assist clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our Education Programs. We are in need of 3 volunteers to come on Thursday afternoons, 12-2pm, for at least the next 4 months. Volunteers socialize with the students as they work, help them gather supplies, and encourage them to stay on task.

Volunteers assist students by encouraging them, helping them stay on track and engaged, gathering supplies, socializing, and in some cases even physically guiding the hand of some of our less ambulatory or vision impaired clients.

The Education Programs are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 2pm.
We have two sets of classes - Adult Education and Art Education. Volunteers can sign up to help in their program of choice.

Adult Education classes are as follows:
-Monday: Digital Literacy/Media (combined with Art classes this day)
-Tuesday: Health & Wellness, including a walking club and healthy recipes
-Wednesday: Urban Gardening in a community garden plot across the street
-Thursday: Independent Living
-Friday: Vocational Education

Art Education classes (Volunteers do not need to have artistic talent! The students are the artists, and volunteers support them in their endeavors):
-Monday: Digital Media arts
-Tuesday: Performing arts, such as acting or singing
-Wednesday - Friday: Visual arts, such as painting and drawing

We ask that volunteers commit to at least 1 shift per week for a 4 month period.
