Volunteers are needed to unpack boxes of food and pack bags for low income families at 2 locations in city of Alexandria for special food distributions. Times and locations vary because of the pandemic. Crews also set up tables and other equipment. Ability to lift and bend correctly essential. Closed toe shoes required.

Possible locations:
Chick Armstrong Recreation Center, 25 West Reed Avenue
John Adams Elementary School, 5651, Rayburn Ave.

Times vary due availability of facility and food supply.

15 to 20 volunteers are needed for each set-up session at each location.

Mission Statement

ALIVE! combines faith and love into action to help struggling Alexandria residents. Founded in 1969 as a grassroots movement led by faith-based organizations and community leaders in response to growing concerns about poverty in their City, ALIVE! is a volunteer-governed 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency and basic needs support to children, families and individuals living in poverty and with hunger in the City of Alexandria. Still celebrating its 50th anniversary milestone, ALIVE! is the oldest and largest private social safety net in the City currently serving thousands of Alexandrians each month, with the support of 45 faith-based member congregations and volunteers.

Description

Currently, a number of ALIVE"s programs are on hold, while others are popping up. This is due to the shutdowns due to the virus. We rely on donations to maintain these programs. Checking our website under the "get involved" tab

ALIVE! (ALexandrians InVolved Ecumenically) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of volunteers from 45 religious congregations and the community working together to help those in need in Alexandria, Virginia. Founded in 1969, ALIVE! is the largest private safety net for the needy in the city of Alexandria, addressing short-term to long-term needs for those less fortunate in the community. ALIVE! serves over 10,000 Alexandrians annually with shelter; low-cost early childhood education and childcare; financial help for rent, utilities, medical care and other critical needs; emergency food; and deliveries of donated furniture and housewares.
