ORGANIZATION: Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law, Foundation

  • 31 people are interested

The Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law (CHRCL) is a Los Angeles non-profit organization that focuses its work on the civil and human rights of insular minorities and vulnerable communities.

Our organization initiates and conducts impact class action litigation, provides technical support to other providers of legal services, and engages in advocacy work on selected issues impacting vulnerable low-income groups with legal injuries. Several of our projects are described at our web sites: www.centerforhumanrights.org and www.casa-libre.org.

CHRCL is currently seeking volunteers and interns who are committed to creating significant social change in advocating for human rights. Interested individuals will have the opportunity to assist staff to prepare for a landmark case involving asylum-seeking mother's and children being held in detention.

The Flores case, which has been ongoing since 1986, was the first of its kind and set nationwide standards for the treatment of unaccompanied minors in detention as a result of the settlement agreement reached in 1996.

We have recently collected declarations from mothers and children in various detention sites and now need help to organize information in these declarations into SUBJECT files to help us prepare a legal brief seeking to have as many mothers and children as possible released from custody.

Please contact us if you are willing to dedicate one or more hours on this important project during the next week. If you are unable to dedicate time within the next week, but wish to work on this issue after that, please contact us as there will be more volunteer work needed on this important case.
