About Catholic Volunteers in Florida: CVIF provides one year service placement opportunities throughout the state of Florida and internationally in the Dominican Republic. We provides volunteers with the opportunity to serve those in need while also developing professionally and personally through our unique retreat program. Benefits include a monthly stipend, health insurance, and furnished housing.

About the Position: CVIF is recruiting for full-time, volunteer Resident Assistant supporting adults with developmental disabilities. Resident Assistant supervises, supports, guides and provides training to individuals with developmental disabilities. This includes assisting residents to maintain their physical and emotional health, live safely in the community, and develop necessary life skills.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • -Provides specific training activities that assist the individual to acquire, maintain or improve skills related to activities of daily living.

  • -Supports individuals in maintaining optimal health including assisting individuals to manage self-administration of their medications, counseling individuals to develop healthy exercise and physical fitness habits and following physician-prescribed diets developed and supervised by a licensed dietician/nutritionist.

  • -Assist individuals to maintain their chosen routines, including reminders for appointments, facilitation of transportation and participating in community activities such as community organizations, faith-based communities, shopping and recreational activities.

  • -Document training progress, significant changes and other relevant information in the web-based HIPAA compliant management system.

  • -Facilitate compliance with community rules and relationship with housemates and community members.

  • -Responds to emergencies, as necessary, to the extent allowed under certification, training and licensure requirements.

  • -Recognizes and celebrates personal accomplishments of individuals.

  • -Supports individuals in the development of self-worth, and empowers them to become better decision-makers.

  • -Adheres to diocesan, federal and state laws and policies of client confidentiality.

  • -Communicate with staff, support coordinators, and other appropriate individuals concerning individuals.

  • -Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • -To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • -Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a medical, psychiatric, nursing or child care setting or in working with persons who have a developmental disability. College, vocational or technical training equal to 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or 720 classroom hours can substitute for the required experience.
  • -Must meet all CVIF program requirements (minimum age of 21 years, FBI Level 2 background check, valid drivers license, 11-month commitment, more at www.cvif.org)

BENEFITS: CVIF provides free furnished housing, health insurance (including vision and dental), a monthly living stipend (up to $600 depending on location), and Americorps Education Award for qualifying positions (approximately $5,900 for past loans or future study) upon completion of a year of service. CVIF also provides quarterly retreats, faith formation, professional development, and leadership training and coaching. Deadline to apply is May 31, 2019
