The ELCNF is looking for volunteers for two of it's early literacy programs. The first program is our Reading Pals program. This program places volunteer readers into local preschool classrooms once a week or bi-weekly to read to groups of children.
The second program is our Literacy Outreach program. Volunteers in this program assist ELC staff in putting on different themed literacy programs and events in area preschools. Volunteers might take the role of being a special reader, they assist children with different art and sensory activities and help with book distribution events. Some of the themes include: Meet the Masters which introduces children to the great artists and musicians of our time like Beethoven and Monet. There is also a Space, Dinosaur, Mother Goose and Eric Carle "World of Colors" program. During each program the children all receive a FREE book relating to the theme and the teacher receives a bag of resources for their classroom. These programs are held 4-6 times a month throughout the six county area the ELC serves. Volunteers help only when they are available. Most programs are held during the week in the morning between 9:00-12:00. The need currently is for volunteers who live in Clay, Putnam and St. Johns County.
In regards to COVID...These programs are being affected. Sometimes schools have not allowed outside readers and programs in. Volunteers have and can wear masks. We provide clear masks for the volunteers so the children can see there faces. Each volunteer reader stays in touch with their particular school about what is required because of COVID.
