Luther Burbank Greenhouse & Carriage House

Each Gift Shop Volunteer serves three half-day shifts per month during the tour season greeting visitors and selling Gift Shop products. The tour season is April through October, Tuesday through Sunday. The Gift Shop features items related to Burbank’s life and work. Many of the products such as prints and posters, cards, books and tee-shirts are designed and produced especially for LBH&G.

The cash register is a simple, computer-based system running on a PC.

TO PRESERVE THE HOME AND GARDENS OF LUTHER BURBANK AND TO SHARE THE LIVING LEGACY OF HIS LIFE, IDEALS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIELD OF HORTICULTURE. In furtherance of this mission the organization strives to: * Interpret Luther Burbank's life, work and times for modern audiences. * Preserve and enhance the aritifacts, the site, the structure, and the significant plant materials. * Serve the needs of Luther Burbank scholars. * Utilize the talent of Volunteers to conduct the Home & Gardens programs. * Provide a focus for fund-raising efforts as necessary for the support of the goals established by the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens Board

Description

Luther Burbank Home & Gardens is a registered National, State, and Local Historic Landmark, and Horticultural Landmark. The nearly two acre site contains the beautiful gardens and historic home, and Greenhouse of world renowned horticulturist Luther Burbank. About 150 volunteers enjoy gardening, working in the unique Gift Shop and Museum, or giving tours of the turn-of-the-20th-century home and gardens. In this tranquil place, Burbank lived and worked for most of his fifty-year career improving plants for the benefit of mankind. The property has been preserved in his memory and visitors from the community and around the world take pleasure in seeing the beautiful flowers and plants, and touring the preserved home containing his antiques, family heirlooms, and the history of his life.
