Duties:
The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery offers local history programs to school groups for field trips, and we need volunteer help to teach those programs. School groups will meet with trained volunteer History Program Educators to visit the Heritage Courtyard and tour the historic Boxelder Schoolhouse, the Auntie Stone Cabin, the Antoine Janis Cabin, and the Franz-Smith Cabin to learn more about local Fort Collins history. This is similar to living history, so we would like Educators to wear period-appropriate clothing. The museum maintains a limited collection of period-appropriate clothing which you may be able to borrow for the program.
As a History Program Educator, you are responsible for set-up and clean-up of programs, and guiding students through observational and hands-on activities in the cabins. Groups of up to 100 students may register for a guided tour of the cabins in the courtyard. However, groups will be split into groups to rotate between the four cabins, so you will only be presenting to up to 25 students at a time. Volunteer shifts are no more than 3 hours and typically happen between 8:30am and 2pm. History Program Educators will facilitate programs on an on-call basis using our online scheduling system, Volgistics. FCMoD will contact trained Educators as school groups book field trip reservations, and you can sign up for groups that work with your schedule. Educators should be willing to lead at least 2 programs per month, as the need arises.

Qualifications:
Training is provided for History Program Educators, but it is essential that you have some particular skills. You are expected to be flexible and prompt, able to work independently of FCMoD staff, and comfortable managing and speaking in front of large groups of children. Previous experience educating large groups of children is preferred.
