ORGANIZATION: Northern Arizona University- CSI AmeriCorps Program

VISTA will serve with educational program staff and to design, implement and coordinate new Alternative to Managing Pain (AMP) curriculum and expand existing programing. VISTA will build capacity and create volunteer opportunities for residents to participate in AMP activities. VISTA will work with local medical, spiritual and cultural resources to increase the number of community volunteers that receive training on effective AMP education VISTA will Develop fundraising strategies designed to build sustainability of Mohave County Department of Public Health and partners that are providing services to youth who are underrepresented in AMP education. VISTA will develop and implement targeted marketing and outreach materials for Mohave County Department of Public Health and measure the effectiveness of current marketing efforts to reach individuals about AMP. VISTA will serve with local medical, spiritual and cultural resources to increase resources for individuals seeking alternatives to opioids. VISTA will assess the current state of data collection measures and instruments utilized by Mohave County Department of Public Health and create some common instruments to improve Mohave County Department of Public Health’s data collection for long-term monitoring and sustainability. VISTA will develop a Youth Diversion Program. Researching other state diversion programs and their effectiveness and compile a pilot program that conforms to Mohave County youth.

Member Duties : Serve with the Mohave County Department of Public Heath and their Prescription Drug Overdose Prevention Program in the surrounding areas in developing programs and outreach for the population affected by opioids. This VISTA will be assisting the educators in this program. The local AmeriCorps housed on the campus of Northern Arizona University is a multi-site project. Each year the AmeriCorps project places 60 plus AmeriCorps Members in over thirty different agencies throughout the state of Arizona that meet critical community needs.
