ORGANIZATION: Equal Justice Wyoming

Equal Justice Wyoming (EJW) manages a statewide Volunteer Lawyers Program, produces and disseminates self-help legal resources, and supports access to justice initiatives across Wyoming. EJW serves as an Intermediary for an ever-growing network of VISTA members, all of whom are committed to improving circumstances for low-income individuals and families in our predominately rural state. The EJW VISTA Leader will expand and solidify the impact of VISTA members in Wyoming’s access to justice organizations by facilitating recruitment, building community, enhancing education, and increasing visibility for EJW’s VISTA program. The VISTA Leader will interact with supreme court personnel, attorneys, law school professors, and legal service providers. The VISTA Leader will learn about the practice of law and the administration of access to justice initiatives. The VISTA Leader will also gain experience in supporting and motivating diverse professionals.

Living Allowance provided. Education Award available.

College Degree required. Previous AmeriCorps Service required.

Mission Statement

Equal Justice Wyoming is charged with developing a statewide program for improving access to justice and providing civil legal services to Wyoming’s low-income citizens.

Description

Equal Justice Wyoming is a program of the Wyoming Supreme Court tasked with the coordination of statewide civil legal aid and access to justice initiatives. We work in collaboration with legal services programs and community organizations to ensure that people with limited income have access to legal assistance, information, and resources to address their civil legal needs. We administer state funding for civil legal services; manage the statewide Volunteer Lawyers Program; provide training, resources, and support to pro bono and legal aid attorneys; and develop online programs that increase self-represented litigants’ access to legal information.
