Every day thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment, but some may not have a way to get there.
The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer and who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars so that patients can receive the life-saving treatments they need. They also provide encouragement and support. Drivers offer a curb-to-curb service, picking up the patient outside their home and delivering the patient to their treatment location. Drivers can select their available times during business hours Monday-Friday.
Drivers must have a valid driver’s license for the state where they live. They must also have a safe, reliable vehicle, proof of automobile insurance, and access to a computer to check for ride matches.
COVID 19 update : currently our Road to Recovery program is suspended for the protection of our volunteers. Now is still the time to volunteer and get registered to help this program. The training is all virtual and can be done in preparation for the days we move past this virus. The need for these rides to treatment will become even more vital to helping cancer patients as many of their family resources for rides may have changed.
