Since 1980 LITAhas grown friendships & long term relationships between volunteers and hospital residents .

LITA organizes opportunities year round for volunteers to socialize and share pets, live music, youth and family visitors with our disabled & elderly in skilled nursing and selected Assisted living facilities in West Contra Costa County. Facility staff warmly welcomes LITA volunteer’s support as less than half of residents have any family visitors at all!

There cannot be enough said about the unconditional hope and joy, friendly vistor communicates to a suffering person, possibly a person who can no longer speak or walk. How much easier to draw a person out than sitting with them to hold a hand to do their nails?

Help LITA accomplish our mission to improve the quality of life for the ever growing and increasingly isolated populations in skilled nursing facilities. Budgets for staff and stimulating activities are only shrinking. That’s why delivery of LITA’s services are invaluable. We NEED YOU!

"Love Is The Answer" LITA of Contra Costa (since 1980) involves community members of all ages, educating and supporting youth, students families and aspiring artsts to be Volunteers to fulfill our Mission to imporve qualiaty of life for senior & disabled persons living full time in nursing care as well as memory care and assisted living facilities in Contra Costa County.

Description

LITA of CC serves skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, primarily in Contra Costa County. LITA is non-sectarian. There is no charge for LITA volunteer services.

MUSIC AWAKENINGS: LITA has long supported the miracle of Music to enhance healing & joy. Volunteers program tablets and phones especially for an individual patient (who may have speech, sight or social disabilities) with access to of music and movies from their prime of life stimulate golden memories, reducing stress, insomnia , agitation depression and alleviating sundowning. Spontaneously singing along with beloved lyrics, patients have created new pathways torestore speech.

LITA of Contra Costa encourages Intergeneration Appreciation, with events and holiday or project visits for groups from preschool through High School and College. Family visits are also encouraged and supported within this Love Is The Answer volunteer program.

Arts Volunteers at all ages & levels of perfecting audio/visual, music, dance, acting, poetry and other performing & fine arts, share these gifts with seniors in continuing care. Our most popular LITA program, suspended during covid and still not back was Pet Visitors bringing gentle dogs, cats, turtles birds.
