Program Overview

The Audacious Young Women of Action (AYWA - which means yes in Arabic) is a women-only group of young adults, who meet weekly as part of a peer to peer support network. In this group, the young women gain exposure to role models, explore possible life pathways, share their struggles, collectively craft solutions, and address relationship issues and cultural expectations. We are working in collaboration with these young women to explore the meaning of empowerment and identify ways to grow independently and in community. Our participants inspire each other to challenge preconceived notions about what a woman should be and do.

The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization created in 1994 to provide multi-generational social services to marginalized and under-served immigrants and refugees in New York City through programming including:

* Adult Education & Literacy Program

* Youth Program

* Legal Services Program

* Anti-Violence Program

* Preventive Services Program

* Health Program

* Mental Health Initiative

* New Immigrants & Refugee Fund

AAFSC is dedicated to serving all people who seek our services, and over our almost 25 years of service we have developed expertise in providing culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed services to the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) immigrant communities of New York City. The youth and families we serve are predominately low-income, have limited proficiency in English, and are recently arrived. Our holistic programming responds to the direct needs of our clients as they adjust to life in the United States.
