Looking for STEM education volunteers in Manchester! This year 4-H STEM Docents will be partnering with 21 Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) in Manchester Elementary schools to help students connect with their creative, engineering sides. If you are curious, like to invent, build, and work with kids, volunteering with STEM Docents might be for you! Contact megan.glenn@unh.edu for more details.


STEM Docents is a volunteer program that trains individuals to lead programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Trainings are offered throughout the year. New volunteers must complete a volunteer application found on our website: extension.unh.edu/programs/stem-docents

Description

STEM Docents trains and coordinates teams of volunteers, known as STEM Docents, and K-12 educators so they are highly successful in engaging and inspiring New Hampshire K-12 youth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) projects. This program aligns with national recommendations to actively engage learners in doing science to enhance their understanding of the scientific concepts and the process of conducting science. This work is in partnership with 4-H and the Joan and James Leitzel Center for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Education.

  • Initial training is 2.5 hours/3 evenings. Curriculum training is scaffolded: 2 hours/week for 4 weeks. Program implementation is 1 hour/week for minimum of 4 weeks.
  • Participation in training, background check, completion of 4-H volunteer on-boarding process.
