Volunteers Needed for Beyond Sports Foundation AmeriCorps program! Please join our team and become an Academic Tutor & Mentor for high school athletes. Volunteers receive a monthly stipend for their time!

Beyond Sports Foundation is looking for individuals who want to give back to the community, while receiving a monthly stipend for their time. Our Academic Tutors & Mentors work with high school student athletes, from under resourced Chicago area communities, throughout the year on homework, ACT/SAT test prep, and study skills.

Academic Tutors & Mentors will provide subject specific one-on-one tutoring and small group tutoring. Tutors may also create and deliver content for professional development workshops that focus on topics such as: transitioning to college, elevator pitch/interviewing skills, budgeting/financial readiness, nutrition and the role it plays in overall health. As part of the mentoring program, volunteers are encouraged to attend student sporting events and also plan and chaperone outings (trips to the theatre, museums, retreats, etc).

Generally, tutoring takes place in the evening 2-3 times per week at our McCook, Highland Park, Evanston, Waukegan locations. On Sunday mornings, tutoring takes place at our Highland Park location only. We are looking for individuals to commit for the 2019 - 2020 academic school year.

Mission Statement

Beyond Sports Foundation uses the power of sport to transform lives by turning athletic ability into life opportunity.

Description

Beyond Sports Foundation prepares student-athletes to succeed in life. We work with student-athletes from under-resourced families in under-served communities that will need financial assistance in order to attend college. Many of our student-athletes are from populations that are under-represented on college campuses.

Investing in student-athletes in our community creates the leaders of the future by helping them develop the skills they need to prosper and positively impact future generations. Beyond Sports Foundation uses sport as the vehicle for student-athletes to secure Division 1 college scholarships and a four-year degree. While sport is valuable, we reinforce that sport will end one day and that an education will last a lifetime.

As a pioneer among college access and success programs, Beyond Sports Foundation is the only organization offering support for student-athletes to strengthen their academic, life and career skills while paralleling their athletic training in order to prepare them for college and beyond through our four pillars of engagement:

Academic Development
Athletic Development
Social Responsibility
Professional Development & Mentorship
