Responsibilities:
- Aid in the screening process of our prospective volunteers - acting as the HR department when
- completing and processing volunteer applications.
- Conduct telephone and/or in person interviews, finding the appropriate volunteer position for each volunteer candidate.
- Help plan special events, play a key role in employee engagement, and also help the volunteer recruiter in the field in search of new Red Cross Volunteers.
- Market volunteer opportunities through fairs, community events, or presentations at community organizations.
- Respond to prospective volunteer inquiries by answering phones, monitoring email inquiries and online applications.
- Regular maintenance of volunteer database
Time Commitment: Flexible - at least 12 hours per week during business hours (9-5) with potential availability to work more as needed for volunteer interviews, orientations, and/or outreach events.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Background in human resources, customer service, volunteer or nonprofit management, business, marketing, International Studies, etc.
- Enthusiasm about the services and programs the American Red Cross provides
- Willingness to learn and take on new projects
- Team oriented approach
- Ability to present well and in front of others, on the phone, and as a representative of the American Red Cross.
- Competence in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point software
- Successfully completed background check
The Internship is an unpaid developmental experience where candidates must be enrolled in a degree
program at the time of the internship.

Length of Appointment: Semester
Training:
- Orientation to the American Red Cross
- On the job training and job shadowing of supervisor and experienced volunteers in Volunteer Services
- On-line training available to learn both systems and direct programming
Availability: During business hours, During business hours (daytime, M-F), I'm flexible, Volunteer in the office
