Mission Statement
We're a 501(c)3 nonprofit, full service, rescue and placement organization for the Basset Hound breed. Our mission is to find, rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home abused, abandoned, neglected, lost and/or relinquished basset hounds. We must meet the people who are adopting from us, and as we have trusted, local volunteers perform a home check, we tend to only place dogs within our region. We have Adoption Requirements that focus on finding the best possible "forever" homes for our rescues. We consider the most important part of our adoption process to be the home and fence check. Our adoption agreements are detailed, and our procedures here at Basset Rescue of Montana may, at times, irritate our applicants, because our procedures are, in every way, for the benefit of the homeless and abandoned dogs: it is part of our mission to do our very best to ensure that, once re-homed, our rescues never have to suffer abandonment again!
Description
Leslie Ames, as President and Shelter Manager of Basset Rescue of Montana, offers her home as a social place for all rescues, besides her own bassets. Every dog comes into her home to be assessed, and to learn house manners and the use of a doggie door.
Leslie is well qualified for her position: she is a retired Obedience Trainer and former Assistant Director of a large California Obedience Club. She was also a Registered Nurse, now retired and a former Veterinary Technician. Leslie carefully monitors all the shelter's dogs, and knowledgeably provides for their health, welfare, and behavioral modification -- if necessary -- with patience, dedication, and love, and by understanding the special "houndy" needs of abused, neglected and abandoned bassets. Leslie is hoping for new volunteers and ancillary help to keep the organization functioning. One person cannot run a huge machine with many parts and it is becoming urgent that we meet and train more dedicated animal activist.
