ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Texas Gulf Coast Region

Transportation Specialists for Hospital Deliveries transport blood and blood products throughout the Houston Metropolitan Area in a safe and timely manner. Drivers can sign up for shifts with specific route (typically mornings) or be available for "hot shot/emergency blood runs".

Blood is delivered 24/7 because the need for life saving blood products is ever present. Therefore, volunteer opportunities are offered 7 days a week. Must be willing to commit to AT LEAST one shift per month. Most volunteers in this role enjoy a regular weekly shift... but that level of commitment is not required.

Duties:

  • Distribute blood to area hospitals as routine or "stat" deliveries
  • Pick up and return boxes as needed
  • Complete required paperwork and obtain signatures
  • Communicate and share feedback between Red Cross personnel and customers
  • Drive in a safe and responsible manner
Qualifications:
  • Willingness to support the Red Cross mission
  • Valid state driver's license - 3 years driving experience
  • Minimum age of 19
  • Familiarity with the Houston Metropolitan Area including the Medical Center
  • Able to verify safe driving records with state or insurance
  • Experience to demonstrate reliability
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs
  • Successful completion of American Red Cross Defensive Driving Course (within 6 months of placement)
Red Cross will provide the vehicle for deliveries.
