Reading Coach Volunteers needed at the Martin Luther King, Jr. School in Dorchester
4 people are interested
Generations Incorporated is looking for older adult volunteers to serve as literacy coaches at the Martin Luther King, jr. School in Dorchester. Volunteers work one-on-one with students (K-3rd grade) or work with small groups of students in a classroom. No previous experience teaching is required, just a desire to help children become better readers!
Our volunteers attend a 6-hour initial training, are supported by a Site Team Leader at their service location, and are provided monthly professional development meetings for ongoing support. Volunteers are placed in a classroom or work one-on-one with a student twice per week. Volunteers develop a relationship with their students, see meaningful improvement in reading skills, and serve as a mentor.
Volunteers commit to serving for five hours per week (two days for 2.5 hours each day) for the full school year. (Some opportunities for stipends are available for individuals who volunteer 10 hours per week.)
Opportunities at the Martin Luther King, Jr. School are available during the school day (primarily mornings between 8:30 am - 12:30 pm).
We'll work with your schedule.
