Mission Statement
The American Heart Association (AHA) is committed to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. As part of our mission, we focus on specific causes designed to help people achieve a heart-healthy lifestyle.
- Start! is the American Heart Association’s national movement that promotes physical activity and living a healthier life through walking.
- Go Red For Women encourages women to reduce their risk of heart disease by assessing their risk of heart disease with the Go Red Heart CheckUp, and visit their healthcare provider each year to control blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.
- The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a joint initiative of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation with a mission to eliminate childhood obesity and inspire young people in the United States to develop lifelong, healthy habits.
- Power To End Stroke is an aggressive national education campaign to raise awareness about stroke among African Americans - while embracing and celebrating their culture, creativity and energy.
Description
In 2008, The American Heart Association achieved the key metrics of their 2010 strategic goal which was to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent.
The AHA exceeded the 25% reduction in mortality goals for coronary heart disease and stroke almost two years earlier than expected.
In 2010, the AHA adopted a new goal:
By 2020, to improve cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20 percent."
Our goal is to move from a more reactive strategy to a more proactive one that focuses on improving health and quality of life.CAUSE AREAS
