ORGANIZATION: United Way of the Bluegrass, Inc

RSVP Trailblazers, a Senior Corps project administered by United Way of the Bluegrass, is looking for talented, dedicated people for Mentors & Meals, a homework help and mentoring program in Georgetown. Middle school students need assistance from mature adults to help them succeed in school. With the steady, stable assistance of an RSVP volunteer, a student has a better chance of succeeding in school, both now and in the future.

Volunteer slots are available on several different days of the week - we will work with you to help you make the most of the time you have to give. The time you invest in our community’s kids makes a difference today - and makes a bigger difference tomorrow.

RSVP volunteers are age 55 and up, but even if you do not meet this age threshold, please contact us if you are interested, and we will refer you.

What we’re asking:

Be willing to work at least one afternoon a week.

Be willing to give homework help with at least one subject - language arts, science, math, social studies

Be willing to work alongside other mentors, many of whom are themselves high school students.

Be a mature presence and a positive example for our community’s young people!

What you’ll receive:

Membership in a region-wide volunteer community serving many educational programs in the area

Supplemental insurance coverage funded by Senior Corps

Available mileage reimbursement (subject to limits)

The satisfaction of knowing your help improved a young person’s prospects!
