  • 7 people are interested

Small community non-profit seeks assistance across a range of administrative areas. Duties vary depending on availability of other volunteers and applicant interests but may include;

-- Assisting with volunteer scheduling
-- Archiving old paper records for electronic storage
-- Directing mail to appropriate administrative personnel
-- Responding to select public inquiries
-- Processing membership invoices, payments and renewals
-- Assist as needed to assure up-to-date record keeping
-- Assisting with semi-annual gift shop inventories

Proximity to the museum is strongly recommended because many functions will be carried out on site and direct familiarity with museum operations is important. Duties will require regular interaction with board members and other volunteers. Hours are flexible but it is necessary to carry out some duties several times each week. Orientation and training will be provided.

Mission Statement

Preserve and educate about local history through events, activities, exhibits and programs at what was the last operating railroad depot in Fairfax County.

Description

The all-volunteer Friends of the Fairfax Station operate the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum, dedicated in 1987, to preserve and educate about local history. A variety of events, programs and activities focus on local history, the importance of railroads to Fairfax County and Northern Virginia and the unique role of the station during the American Civil War.

All event planning and daily operations at Fairfax Station are the result of the commitment of our volunteers. We are in regular need for volunteers to assist with all aspects of museum operations, ranging from assisting with museum operations during open hours to fundraising, program development, facility maintenance and board leadership. We always are looking for dedicated individuals to help share the workload and increase the scope of the museum’s events and activities.
