AZ Rise Mentoring
Pima Prevention Partnership AZ Rise Mentoring is an exciting and dynamic program that aims to give our youth the skills and confidence to make positive choices through caring relationships with trusted near peer mentors. AZ Rise supports students in academic achievement, school completion and self-efficacy by providing under resourced youth ages 12-17 with a quality mentoring experience.
Mentoring at its most basic assures young people that there is someone in their life who cares about them, someone who lets them know they have someone to lean in dealing with everyday challenges, and makes them feel like they are valued. Studies show that quality mentoring has a powerful positive impact on various aspects of mentees’ life like self-esteem, self-efficacy and academic achievement.
Vulnerable youth assigned a mentor are:
- 55% more likely to enroll in college. (mentoring.org)
- 78% more likely to volunteer regularly. (mentoring.org)
- 90% more interested in becoming a mentor. (mentoring.org)
- 130% more likely to hold leadership positions. (mentoring.org)
- 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking.
- Students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class. (mentoring.org)
- Mentoring promotes positive social attitudes and relationships. Mentored youth tend to trust their parents more and communicate better with them. (The Role of Risk, 2013)
