Are you someone with time and financial slack, (e.g., retired, an at-home parent of older children) who hungers to contribute your skills to something worthy? Would you like a flexible, meaningful volunteer job (6-25 hours a week) that you could happily grow in for many years?

True Story Theatre uses improvisational theatre for personal and social healing. Our work serves homeless veterans, anti-racism activists, teen leaders, seniors, LGBTQ+ communities, Human Rights Commissions, and dozens of other constituencies.

We are looking for just the right volunteer to take charge of our marketing, communications, and ongoing engagement of fans and donors. You don't need to be expert in these; just fit in well with our small team (communication style, values, and interpersonal chemistry) and be eager to learn. We prefer someone who could join us in our home office, but would be open to working long-distance with the right person.

About True Story Theater

Mission Statement

Social healing through improvisational theatre: Our mission is to build empathy and respect in community through honoring all of our true stories.

Description

True Story Theater is a nonprofit theater company that offers 75-100 improvisational performances and workshops a year for community groups, businesses, and individuals mostly in the greater Boston area. We work with hospitals, universities, corporations, religious communities... with teen leaders, cancer survivors, activists, philanthropists, business leaders... as well as for weddings, birthdays, and other private events.

In performances, volunteers from the audience are helped to share what’s important in their lives. On the spot, actors then portray the heart of what they heard using music, movement, and dialogue. From this simple interaction, people laugh, cry, share fresh insights, and bond. Our events create a respectful atmosphere where every voice can be heard and any story told - however ordinary or extraordinary, difficult or joyful. True Story Theater offers audiences fresh perspectives, deeper connections, and a renewed appreciation for our common humanity.
