Patient Escort - Everett Health Center

Make a difference as a calm supportive greeter for our patients

Health Center Manager, Security and Facilities Director, or Volunteer Program Manager

Primary Function:
To assist clients entering and leaving PPGNHI health centers when anti-choice protesters are present.

Duties:
- Cover scheduled shifts at an assigned PPGNHI health center. The Everett health center volunteers are scheduled for shifts on Mondays and Wednesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. Must commit to 2 shifts a month.
- Check in with health center staff upon arrival
- Wear escort vest at all times while escorting
- Meet patients and/or staff members as they arrive, identify self as a PPGNW escort, advise of the presence of protesters, and offer assistance in entering the health center
- If the patient or staff member desires, walk beside her/him from the parking lot or sidewalk to the front door of the health center
- If necessary, shield the patient or staff member with a PPGNW umbrella
- Follow all PPGNW volunteer program policies and Patient Escort Protocols at all times
- Respect the privacy and reproductive health options of PPGNW patients
- Complete required volunteer paperwork

Abilities Required:
- Must be highly reliable
- The ability to remain calm in the face of loud and very negative protest activity
- The ability to follow a non-engagement policy and refrain from interactions with protesters
- Must be articulate and able to clearly communicate
- Must be comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and racial diversity
- Positive and supportive customer service skills
- The ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment to greet health visitors and walk with them into the facility
- Must be able to follow PPGNHI Clinic Escort protocols at all times

Training:
Attend New Volunteer Orientation and Training and Patient Escort Training

Minimum Commitment:
Six-month minimum commitment required.
