You are invited to join us to learn more about the natural environment and restore 47th Street/Olivia Canyon into a safe and vibrant place for students and families to enjoy and explore. This is a Canyon Connections event in partnership with ODI which will combine environmental education and hands-on habitat restoration activities. This event is funded by an Opening the Outdoors grant from The San Diego Foundation. The first half of the event will be a lesson taught by ODI and the second half of the event will be volunteer activities. This event is geared towards youth but all ages welcome! This event's theme is GEOLOGY! Come learn about the geology of San Diego, why it is important to our ecosystem, and how we can protect the geological features of our canyons. Community service hours documentation provided to those who need it. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign two youth waiver to participate in this event. Mission Statement
San Diego Canyonlands' mission is to promote, protect and restore the natural habitats in San Diego County's canyons and creeks. We do this by fostering education and ongoing community involvement in stewardship and advocacy, and by collaborating with other organizations.
Description
During the monthly events, we would like volunteers to help us remove trash, invasive non-native plants, plant native plants in restoration sites, maintain trails, and do other exciting work to enhance the canyon. Our urban canyons and creeks are critical to the health of the San Diego ecosystems.
