Compassus Hospice has open slots for college students who want to learn about hospice and fulfill their volunteer hours. Many pre-med / nursing students, especially in the healthcare industry, are looking to gain direct patient care volunteer hours for their degree. Hospice is a great fit to make that happen. We provide exactly what a healthcare student needs to fulfill those hours for their degree. We provide students with the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a terminally ill patient.
You must be compassionate and willing to be with someone in their most precious time of need. You will receive training and get the support you need.
Hospice is a health care program for patients with a terminal diagnosis. Our patients are located throughout Macomb, Oakland, Wayne, Washtenaw, and Livingston areas in both their homes or a long term care facility.
What can you do?
- Companion with a patient.
- Reading to a patient.
- Record or Transcribe Patient Stories.
- Take Pictures of Patients for Remembrance.
- Assist with Social Events such as Bingo, Wii Bowling, or Karaoke.
Every patient has specific needs that we match up volunteers to those specific needs. Not only will you gain hours for a degree, you will have an experience that you can only get in hospice and end of life care which will truly help you on your journey.

Mission Statement
The Colleagues of Compassus Hospice are committed to keeping The Hospice Promise by delivering the highest quality of care, serving the needs of patients and families and spreading the stories of hospice to those with whom they come into contact.
Description
Most volunteers feel personally rewarded through offering their time, energy and compassion when they see how much they are able to help patients and families. Further benefits frequently experienced by our volunteers include:
- Greater self-knowledge from insights gained from relationships with patients, their families and from the hospice volunteer training.
- Spiritual growth from supporting a person through the final days while increasing the awareness of their own sense of spiritual values.
The people that make up Compassus are dedicated to compassionate care, clinical excellence and providing comfort and support to patients and their families with end-of-life issues. This includes our volunteers.
At Compassus, we believe that every life is unique and deserves a meaningful and personal final journey. Perhaps you’ve experienced hospice services with a member of your family, or are looking for a meaningful way to volunteer your time. If you believe that giving your time can enhance the lives of others, we encourage you to explore volunteer opportunities with Compassus.
