ORGANIZATION: NeighborLink Indianapolis

We need volunteers who can clean up a messy home.NeighborLink Indy helps low-income seniors and disabled homeowners on the near north side of the city. We help these good people stay safely in their own homes.Sometimes our clients can’t keep up with maintaining their home.Sometimes the city steps in and orders a clean-up.Regardless of the situation we help people who need help. The work schedule is flexible. We schedule projects in advance and call you to see if you are available. We only work for 3 hours at a time and provide all tools and materials.

Typical work would be cleaning long neglected homes or removing accumulated "stuff". You work closely with the senior homeowner and other NeighborLink volunteers. Each home is different with different needs. There will always be a supervisor on site and all tools and materials are provided.

You will be benefiting senior and disabled homeowners who have no one else to turn to for help. Please help if you can. You'll be doing a great kindness and we really need your help right now! Email dave@nlindy.org or call 317 286-2740 and ask for Terence or Jeanette. Thanks!

About NeighborLink Indianapolis

Mission Statement

NeighborLink Indianapolis mission is to help older adults and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.

Description

We focus on home repairs that enable the homeowner to age in place safely, stabilize the home for years to come, and provide an improved appearance for the neighborhood at large. Many of the repairs we provide would be able to be done by the homeowner if they had the means or physical ability. By using volunteers we are able to help the homeowner as well as provide that intimate experience of truly being the hands and able-body for someone else.

Most older adults want to age in the most affordable home-the one they own. Aging in place allows older adults some level of autonomy and dignity over their own health and decisions. It allows many to remain within communities they’ve been a part of for decades. Social determinants of health, particularly including the ability to keep their home safe and accommodating to their physical needs, are among some of the most challenging barriers to aging in place.
