Join us for a week of exciting and educational events showcasing the artists, designers, musicians, filmmakers, authors, fashion and beauty changemakers who are lighting up our screens and airwaves to shift our consciousness and conversations for good.
I’m excited to let you know that The Giving Factory is opened for a small number of volunteers. We would love to see you! Our shifts in our Giving Factory (located at 4141 W. George Street, Chicago, IL 60641) give volunteers the opportunity to roll up their sleeves to sort, organize, and quality check the items donated to our organization. This winter is such a hard time for the families who rely on Cradles to Crayons. The brutal cold is unsafe for so many children, and barriers exist between them and their basic needs. Help us bring down those barriers and provide all the warm, winter essentials they need to thrive. We are scheduling volunteers by appointment for a two hour shift between 10am and 4PM, Monday-Thursday, 10AM-12PM on Fridays, and 9AM-4PM two weekend days a month..
I also wanted to share with you the measures we are taking to ensure the health and safety of our staff, our volunteers, and the kids and families we serve. Please read below for our important safety protocols and requirements that are part of our effort to keep staff and volunteers safe and to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Our staff will be thoroughly sanitizing and disinfecting the facility before your shift begins
Hand sanitizer will be available at the door and throughout the warehouse.
All volunteers must wear a mask for the duration of their shift. Click here for information on how to properly wear a mask.
For your safety, you will be working with product that has been newly purchased or donated and quarantined for at least 72 hours prior to your shift.
Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns. Thank you in advance to your commitment to our mission. I hope to see you soon!
Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12 living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.
Started in 2002 in Boston then moving to Philadelphia in 2007, Cradles to Crayons opens our third site right here in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. We are built by the community in which we stay. Gently used donations of the items we distribute (including clothing, shoes, toys, books, etc.) come into our Giving Factory from families, businesses hosting drives, churches, etc. Volunteers then have the opportunity to sort, organize, quality check, and pack up KidPacks which are individually placed requests from our partner organizations in the cities that we serve. We accept volunteers as young as 5 years old and have volunteer shifts most Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and weekends.
