Care for Friends is looking for a licensed Social Worker to oversee a drop-in session for homeless and vulnerable people at our 530 W Fullerton Parkway location. This is a volunteer opportunity for social workers to work with an underserved community of people to make a humbling impact on their lives.
At Care for Friends we provide services for people in need. Our main initiative is Food for Friends, where we provide weekly hot meals on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. We also provide necessities such as personal care items, clothes, basic healthcare, and activities for our guests.
We need your help to expand our Mental Health Initiative! We are looking for someone or a group of alternating people to regularly oversee a drop-in session for homeless and vulnerable people. We are envisioning the session to take place once or twice a month. Time for guests will be held following a free lunch to check-in and informally talk about concerns or recent experiences (positive or negative). We are looking for a candidate who has relevant qualifications, experience, and licensing in order to undertake this task.
Ideally the post-holder will be able to commit to carrying out the session regularly, in order to provide consistency for the guests. And ideally the post-holder will be able to mingle with the guests at the lunches to build connections and to encourage attendance at the drop-in session. There is no compensation for this position. This is a great opportunity to work in a safe environment with people in Chicago that really need your support and time. If you are interested or would like to learn more about our organization please contact Volunteer Coordinator Bessana Kendig at cffvco@gmail.com . Thank you!
