Volunteer Job Description: Heartmate
Heart Mate mentors make long-term commitments to spend time with a child. Volunteers are matched with a resident of our Group Homes to spend quality time together for one to two hours, two or three times each month. Consistency in your visits to Hephzibah is crucial to developing trusting relationships with the children in our Group Homes. At first, all mentors volunteer on-site, learning the children's routine and staff expectations. Heart Mates spend time with a child and engage her/him in activities such as: reading, helping with homework, playing games, art projects and small group activities. Staff will advise when it is appropriate for volunteers to take children on off-site activities. This will include such activities as: going to the library, having lunch, walking to get an ice cream cone or a cup of hot cocoa, biking, museums, ball games, trips to the zoo, parks, shopping, etc.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that this is an as-needed volunteer opportunity for adults over the age of 21 and positions may not be available. Availability: Based on your schedule and what the Group Home needs.
