The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona provides FREE, quality tax preparation from IRS-certified preparers to individuals and families earning up to $66,000 annually. For many of our clients, their tax refund is the single biggest check they receive all year and provides a strong foothold for their next steps in pursuit of financial well-being, like paying credit card bills, utilities, even accessing healthcare.

Every year, United Way volunteers put millions of dollars in the pockets of their neighbors with a maximized refund. Not only that, they connect people to valuable financial and credit-building services. You can be a part of the team that makes this possible!

What does a front of house manager do?

The demand for our tax preparation services is very high. The atmosphere can be similar to a popular restaurant during the lunch hour -- a lot of people want to be served in a relatively limited time frame. Front of House Managers function as the hosts, letting clients know how long they can expect to wait, makes sure they have everything they'll need to be served, and lets clients know their options if it looks like they won't be seen that day. Most importantly, the Front of House Manager pairs each client with the volunteer who will prepare their taxes and makes sure everyone feels comfortable with their time at the site.

Do I need to know a lot about taxes or software?

The most important thing for a Front of House Manager to be able to do let clients know what to expect after they arrive at the site. The primary intersection this role has with taxes is making sure that clients have all the necessary documents to complete their return and have completely filled out their intake sheets. This is a great role if you are proud of your customer service skills!

About Us

Our Mission

Building A Better Community in Tucson and Southern Arizona.

Our Vision

An economically strong, safe and healthy community where southern Arizona residents can live and work.

Strategic Goal

To achieve measurable results in three areas:

  • Education: Children are Ready to Learn and Safe After School

  • Income: Families Safe and Secure

  • Health: Seniors are Independent and Active

Description

The New United Way

For more than 80 years, United Way has held a reputation as our community's fundraiser, but United Way doesn't just raise money.

Today's United Way is a focused, results-driven system working year-round to change community conditions and create lasting solutions.

Much like a "general contractor" manages all aspects of constructing a building, we manage people and resources to create lasting, positive solutions in lives that need it most.

Through strong partnerships with volunteers, local business, government and nonprofit organizations, United Way accomplishes what no one can do alone.

With your help, we can ensure that:

  • Education: children will enter school prepared to learn and attend safe, nurturing after-school programs

  • Income: families will have the tools they need to remain strong and safe

  • Health: seniors will live actively and make independent life choices

Together, we can Build a Better Community in Tucson and Southern Arizona.
