The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona provides FREE, quality tax preparation from IRS-certified preparers to individuals and families earning up to $66,000 annually. For many of our clients, their tax refund is the single biggest check they receive all year and provides a strong foothold for their next steps in pursuit of financial well-being, like paying credit card bills, utilities, even accessing healthcare.
Every year, United Way volunteers put millions of dollars in the pockets of their neighbors with a maximized refund. Not only that, they connect people to valuable financial and credit-building services. You can be a part of the team that makes this possible!
What does an interview specialist do?
The demand for our tax preparation services is very high. Not everyone can be seen in-person by a tax preparer. Interview specialists provide a critical alternative to clients who want to make the most of their trip to a VITA site by helping them get in and out as quickly as possible while still getting their return preparation process started. You'll perform a quick interview to help them fill out forms tax preparers will need to complete their return, ensure the client has all the documents they'll need to get their return prepared, and help the client scan their documents for preparation through our Valet VITA process.
Do I need to know a lot about taxes or software?
The most important thing to be successful in this position is to complete thorough interviews and know what forms are necessary to complete the client's return. While some knowledge about tax preparation can be helpful in this, we cover all necessary information in training.
