Cook for a Friend is a great opportunity for groups of 5-15 individuals with access to a community kitchen (i.e. church kitchen, synagogue kitchen, hall kitchen, community center kitchen, school cafeteria; not a personal home kitchen).

Cook for a Friend supplies the groups with packaging materials: 3-compartment trays with lids, bags, twist ties, cover sheets with re-heating instructions, and we can also supply the group with disposable gloves, hair nets, Cook for a Friend aprons, long shallow aluminum pans, or pint-sized soup containers.

Frequency: Many older adult social groups at churches or synagogues cook monthly, Sunday Schools typically meet monthly during the academic calendar, University groups typically cook a couple of times during the academic calendar, our civic associations like Rotary and Odd Fellows meet monthly or quarterly on a weekday evening, and some religious groups have annual "mitzvah" days, where they prepare hundreds of meals, soups, and/or assemble breakfast bags for our program.

Cooking groups typically last 2 hours, from start to packaging and clean-up, with most groups preparing between 100-200 meals or soups in that time. Meals or soups need to be cold stored (preferably frozen) if they are not being delivered to KleinLife immediately after the cook. A volunteer from the group will need to transport the meals or soups to KleinLife in Northeast Philly after the cook, where we centrally store and distribute the meals from.

Home Delivered Meals volunteer drivers deliver a week's worth of meals to our clients Monday through Thursday, with routes across Philadelphia (Northeast, South, West, Northwest, Center City) and parts of Lower Bucks and Lower Montgomery County (Elkins Park & City Line Ave.)
