Coats Cause We Care is a community service event where individuals, private and public sector organizations that care about their community provide new or gently used/clean coats for children in the Raleigh area. Our goal is to provide 500 coats to children in need.

This sign up is for Event Volunteers: We will need volunteers to help organize the coats on Friday, November 16th at the Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson Community Center from 3pm-7pm. We will also need volunteers to help with registration and find appropriate sizes for the children on November 17th 11AM - 1PM and 1PM - 3PM.

Can't Volunteer the day of the event? Volunteer as a Coat Captain! Gather new or gently used/clean coats on hangers from your friends, neighbors, your place of work and or your closet. Please take these coats to a designated drop off location. These locations are: Anne Gordon Center of Active Adults, Barwell Road Community Center, Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson Community Center, Brier Creek Community Center, Lions Park Community Center, Greystone Recreation Center, Lake Lynn Community Center, Laurel Hills Community Center, Marsh Creek Community Center, Abbotts Creek, Jaycee Park, Green Rd. Community Center.

Volunteer Impact: Help make sure kids in your community have warm jackets for this winter.

Volunteer Duties:

  • 11/16 - We will need volunteers to help organize the coats on Friday, November 16th at the Sgt. Courtney T. Johnson Community Center from 3pm-7pm.
  • 11/17 - We will also need volunteers to help with registration and find appropriate sizes for the children. Shift 1 11am - 1pm and 2ns Shift is from 1pm - 3pm.

Work Environment: This will be a crowded environment with some physical activities. We will be outside on a basketball court, so please dress for the weather. There is a bathroom on site.

Volunteer Requirements: Event volunteers must be 15 years of age or older. All volunteers will need to fill out a volunteer release form prior to the event. Anyone under 18, will need to have their parent or guardian sign the form as well.

Special Instructions: Park in the lot in front of the center.

**Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. If interested in registering a group, please email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov . We require a list of names and their email addresses to hold spots for groups.*

Per department policy this event cannot count towards court-appointed or suggested community service hours.
