Our volunteer doctors make our Mobile Vision Clinic Program possible, providing hundreds of hours and over 2,000 dilated eye exams annually. Join our vision team. Help us meet a growing need for affordable and
accessible vision services as we partner with KIA and the Chick Fila Peach Bowl in providing vision screenings to at least 10 Atlanta Public Schools in 2023. We are looking for an available eye doctor willing to volunteer their time AT LEAST ONE Friday over the next 5 months at one of our Elementary School mobile clinics scheduled in the Atlanta Public School District.
We are always working to grow our network to meet a growing need and reduce wait times. If you are a currently licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist who would like to volunteer at our mobile clinics, please contact us and we’ll get back to you right away.
Mobile Clinics: How They Work:
-The Lighthouse qualifies patients based on their insurance status, residency, and income. Qualified patients are then scheduled at the clinic location most accessible to them. Vans with mobile eye exam equipment travel to our partner clinics in communities throughout the state. The Lighthouse provides all the tools and equipment necessary for you to perform comprehensive eye exams. All you have to do is show up and be ready to go!
Clinic Flow:
-Patients are scheduled for appointment times. Upon arrival our clinically trained Lighthouse clinic
managers will check them in and prep them for their eye exam. Prep includes auto refraction, acuities, tonometry, and dilation.
-The patient then moves onto the eye exam station, where our volunteer doctor (you) performs an eye
exam and consults with the patient regarding their results and any pre-existing conditions relevant to their eye health. Malpractice insurance for our volunteer doctors is covered through the Georgia Volunteer Healthcare Program.
-If eyeglasses are needed, the Lighthouse clinic manager will help the patient select frames,
measures their (PD) and segment height (if necessary), and file their RX and frame. It will be processed at our Chamblee Optical Lab, where eyeglasses are produced and sent to patients in about 4 weeks or less.
-Follow-up on services, ongoing health education, and additional referrals are coordinated
by Lighthouse Clinic Managers.
