Cleaning and caring for bunnies on Fridays

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: HOUSE RABBIT SOCIETY OF MISSOURI

Fridays are our biggest cleaning day. Our bunnies use litter boxes and cages have cage pads (no bedding) so cages are easy and simple to clean. Bunnies are also fed and there are opportunities for interaction plus other opportunities. Cleaning crews build a lot of camaraderie.

Normal morning volunteer times range for two hours from 9AM - 1PM.

Normal evening volunteer times range for two hours between 5:30PM - 9:30PM Additional hours are up to the volunteer.

Children under 13 require a parent or guardian volunteering with them. Please advise if your are under 18 years old. Under 18 requires a parent or guardian to sign a permission form.

No experience required, but we welcome people who are interested in other areas of volunteering as well.

Mission Statement

We have two-fold mission. First, to rescue abandoned rabbits, provide appropriate daily care and health care, and adopt them into permanent, indoor homes. Second, to educate the public about domestic rabbits and their appropriate care.

Description

We are an all volunteer organization founded in 1997 that rescues abandoned rabbits, has them spayed/neutered, health checked, litter box trained, solicalized and then adopted into loving, indoor only homes. All adopters must attend an orientaion on rabbit care and behavior prior to adoption as most people have completely wrong ideas about rabbits as pets and their needs. Rabbits are the third most abandoned pet in the U.S. We do extensive community outreach from pre-school to PhD level. We encourage young volunteers, but depending on age a parent or adult may need to volunteer with them. Volunteer activities range from data entry to hands on with the bunnies or assistance with activities, events, and fundraising. Many volunteers are needed to help in our shelter with the bunnies or with maintenance as over 40 animal agencies and rescues call upon us for help with abandoned domestic rabbits.
